With the organising team very busy at the moment, we thought it better to put no news on here rather than out of date news. Assemblies continue and they are very fun. That is all.
It’s the AGM this Sunday. Please pop along for a drink and help us choose a new chair, treasurer and secretary, plus look at the direction for Sunday Assembly Bristol for the coming year. By coming along you’re not obligated to help out, though you are helping out just by coming along. If you are interested in getting involved, there are tasks large and small that can help our great community get even better!
Why do people believe things that make no sense?
Professor Bruce Hood, the eminent Bristol University experimental psychologist will be speaking at Sunday Assembly Bristol on May 10th!
Professor Hood, who has research interests in the causes of magical thinking in humans (why we sometimes believe things which cannot be justified by reason or observation), will be speaking on the subject of “Essentialism and Sacred Objects”. Continue reading
There is no Plan and Chat on Thursday 2nd April!
There is no assembly on Sunday 5th April – the next is Sunday 12th April!
We don’t often talk about religion at Sunday Assembly as there are so many other exciting things to talk about in the world. But we live in a society shaped by a Christian heritage. What this has to do with the price of fish is that this weekend is Easter Sunday, which is why the assembly has been moved to next Sunday (12th). It will be all about science, and will be excellent*.

Picture the scene: ’twas mid-April in Bristol, and the evening of our very first Peer Support ‘smoup’ (small group). I arrived ten minutes early at our top-secret location near the city centre, and settled myself with a little handwritten sign on notepaper: Smoup! Then I waited. Maybe nobody would come. What if nobody ever came?
